go green!

For every savings plan commenced with Essential we will donate 1 tonne of certified CO2 emission credit in your name into a project that is invested in renewable clean energy and community projects that offer climate change benefits.

New clean technologies are ordinarily more expensive than existing and conventional carbon intensive fuel supplies; therefore, to avoid losing money and going bankrupt, these projects need additional revenues and can only get these through the sale of carbon credits. So by supporting these projects you are not only helping to reduce carbon emissions, you are making clean energy affordable and competitive against traditional, carbon intensive fuel supply.

Our preferred project involves the development of two wind farms in Changua, Taiwan. Wind electricity generation produces no carbon dioxide emission, leading to direct carbon offset of the greenhouse gases generated from the carbon intensive Taiwanese electricity grid that is primarily supplied by coal power generation.

The wind farms project in Taiwan is comprised of 60 wind turbines that generates an energy output of 507 GWh and is delivered to the regional state electricity authority, Taipower.  An equivalent of 110,000 households will benefit from the clean electricity generated from the wind farm projects.  The project will lead to a reduction in carbon dioxide emissions since it displaces the use of dirty coal fired electricity in Taiwan’s energy mix.

In addition to producing clean and renewable energy for Taiwan, the wind farms project contributes significantly to the region’s sustainable development. As a clean energy source, the project does not contribute to acid rain, global climate change, smog, regional haze, water withdrawal, and particulate-related health effects.
